The new Community of Cities is part of the EU-funded project called Eyes, Hearts, Hands: Urban Revolution. This network of European cities will work together as a community towards a more sustainable future as part of the New European Bauhaus movement.
Goal of 50+ cities
Our goal is to bring together 50+ city representatives in 4 online meetings, where we explain and demonstrate concrete ideas what cities can do to implement the New European Bauhaus values, and hear cities’ needs and challenges within their urban context.
The first meeting is taking place on Friday 13 December 10:00-12:00 CET. All invited cities have received an invitation to join. The next meetings will take place in 2025 with 2 months interval.
Why a community of cities?
Planning the climate neutrality of a city is a very complex process, because it requires collaborating with a wide diversity of stakeholders. Moreover, fighting climate change is not just about developing the right technological solutions, but also using innovative social engagement strategies and finding appropriate financing and funding schemes. Our community of cities will work together on developing the best approach to tackle these three topics.
What are we planning to do?
As part of our project, we are developing a tool, guidelines and policy recommendations to offer European cities strategies to reach their decarbonization and energy transition goals. Our aim is to promote key values of the New European Bauhaus: sustainable, beautiful and inclusive cities. The local heritage and social context are at the heart of this transformation. I will organise working groups to hear about your needs, challenges and ask for your feedback, so that the tool, guidelines and policy recommendations will be relevant for your city.
What are the benefits of being part of this network?
Your city will be part of a large and prestigious EU project and be connected to the New European Bauhaus initiative as well as The European Green Deal. Aside of gaining new contacts and insights from other cities, you will learn about the latest strategies and technologies. Most importantly, through the process you will become familiar with the practical steps that we can take for Europe to become a climate-neutral continent.
Who will be hosting the meetings?
Our 4 working group meetings will be lead by our project manager Marina Focarile from RINA, facilitated by Luisa De Amicis and her team from ICONS, and coordinated by my team at European Green Cities. There will be presentations by Sara Botto from RINA and by leaders of the pilot sites in Høje-Taastrup (Denmark), Kozani (Greece), Zoersel (Belgium), Maia (Portugal), Izmir (Turkey), Osijek (Croatia) and Biodistretto (Italy).
